home grown veg

I was doing my weekly shop in Tesco today and as there was only me and Hannah had a bit of time to check things out (well more than usual) and I noticed that many of the produce was from abroad. Now I don't have a problem with that but I can see why the farmers are up in arms about it as there seemed to be very little produce from the UK. Now it could be that at this time of year there just aren't the crops in the UK, but it just struck me I did wonder if its a general policy or whether its just a yearly thing. Anyone know?
