memory capability

OK so its another post about my kids, but heh its my blog :-)

But I am stunned to realise how much they remember about people they don't
see that often.

Today Toby and I were talking about my aunt's 50th birthday party tomorrow
and buying a present and I was just about to mention getting some art
supplies when he piped up that Auntie Miggy likes to draw so we should get
her some art stuff. It's a comment I made over a family meal and she drew
them a very quick funny picture but I suppose him loving art the way it does
it stuck.

And then Sam hasn't seen one of our friends for ages and yet remembered what
his nickname was that his family called him (Lai Lai - you know who you are
have I spelt that right?).

It always surprises me when I can sometimes go in the kitchen and forget
what I went in for :-)

They might not remember their school bag, their lunch box or their coat
without being reminded but they know what someone likes to be called and
what makes someone feel special, which made me think I suppose that's much
more important at the end of the day.

I don't know who said it but I remember years ago reading a quote about
people of history, people who will really be remembered are not the statues
and the portraits we see in museums but the imprints we leave on people's
hearts, those are unmovable and will be passed down through the years in
stories.

We know who we are! Yes I was surprised when Sammy referred to our boy by his nickname. (I've no idea how you'd spell it, although his Auntie spelt it like you suggested, so maybe we'll stick with that!!)

Kids are like sponges, you forget until you give them a nugde and all this knowlege spills out!
