Just a mum

I don't know whether I just don't talk about what else I do or whether people just assume it but most people think all I do all day is stay home with the kids.

Now granted that's my main role and I do enjoy it and its my first priority but I do so much more in my day besides kids and house, and have so many more interests. I've had quite a few comments lately from friends saying oh you're just a mum type comments or you like mum things etc and it's got me thinking about how I'm seen by others and it kinda bugs me really that I seem to be seen sometimes as a second class citizen. MUms do an important job, what would happen to the world if we all went on strike for a week :-)
I do work however but many times people assume I don't and disregard me in conversations, its' strange really.

I'm not going to change who I fundamentally am because other people don't see it, it's just strange the way you are perceived by people sometimes. This probably sounds a bit like a rant but isn't meant as one trust me, I suppose as well its challenging to think I probably only see one aspect of many of my friends and there is an awful lot more to them than what I see.

I am sick of being brushed off for being a Mum, or not taken seriously - like I've had a labotomy or something!
I often think that parenting requires more from a person than someone doing a dull and repetitive job - as you have constant demands placed on you, that you have to prioritise and deal with!
And people wonder why there are not more stay at home mums!
