ambulances and all things emergency

Had a lovely start to the holidays yesterday, decorated t-shirts with fabric pens and played games watched ice age etc etc loads of fun. Kids were ace and we all had a ball, bedtime they were shattered and ready to drop so they had their stories and had their usual reading time then Sam came down to see if it was time to turn the light out.

THUD WALLOP BANG SCREAM

WE appeared in the hallway to see blood gushing from Sam’s head  and a very distraught Sammy at that, much pressure to the head and 3–4 minutes later the bleeding still hadn't stopped so we decided to call an ambulance. By this point Sam was pretty hysterical as you can imagine, after 5–10 mins the ambulance arrived and by then the bleeding had stopped thankfully. Sam by then had also calmed down and was smiling by the time we got in the ambulance.

I felt a bit foolish as the bleeding had stopped but the guy agreed with me that as it hadn't before there's no way I could have driven to the hospital and held pressure to his head so I’d done the right thing. Well Sam had a ball in the ambulance and was quite chirpy really all things considered. Got seen by the triage nurse and then had to wait 2 1/2 hours later we got seen as it was very busy but Sam was a star and the staff were lovely.

In the end there was a reasonable size hole in the top of his head and they cleaned it and glued it back together thankfully there was no swelling or anything like that and we prayed he’d have no headache today and he hasn’t.

Thanks to Hazel for picking us up and for my mum for being on standby.

when we were ready to go home Sam asked if we would be going back in the ambulance. He was a tad disappointed that we weren’t but liked being in Hazel’s car. He said to me oh ok mummy its was just a treat. I had to laugh. He seems totally unperturbed now by the whole thing thankfully so very thankful for that too.

Oh goodness! Poor Sammy. I am so happy to hear it will be remembered by him as a fun outing!

It makes me so thankful that we have not (yet) had a similar trip to the hospital! Although with my boy, I fear it may be only a matter of time.........
